AYU-Project is a full-cycle design company: we develop design documentation and working documentation external water supply networks for residential areas, industrial sites and social facilities. Hydraulic calculations, selection of pipelines for pressure and soil conditions, coordination with the water utility - everything is included in the contract. We work across Russia remotely, handing over documentation within the agreed time frame.
We design external water supply and sewerage networks for residential, commercial and industrial facilities. We create routing schemes, select materials, pumping equipment and wells, taking into account the load and operating conditions. Properly designed external water supply networks ensure a stable water supply, efficient wastewater disposal and a long service life of engineering infrastructure.
Why does a mistake in a plumbing project cost more than the project itself?
The design of external water supply networks is that section of technical documentation where the cost of an error is measured not by changes in drawings, but by opening already filled trenches. Incorrectly calculated hydraulic mode leads to insufficient pressure on the upper floors or hydraulic shocks that destroy the fittings; underestimation of the pipeline diameter will only become clear at peak load; Deviation from the route agreed with the water utility threatens the refusal to issue acceptance certificates and the postponement of the commissioning date of the facility.
AYU-Project develops design documentation for external water supply networks based on the current technical specifications of the resource supply organization, engineering and geodetic surveys and verified hydraulic calculations - so that the installed network exactly corresponds to the design parameters of pressure, flow and reliability. For which facilities do we design external water supply?
External water supply networks are designed for any capital construction projects that require connection to a centralized water supply system or organization of autonomous water supply:
- residential complexes and neighborhoods - distribution networks for domestic and drinking water and fire-fighting water supply, ring and dead-end circuits, fire hydrants;
- industrial enterprises and production sites - separate systems of domestic and drinking water, industrial and fire-fighting water supply, technological water pipelines;
- logistics and warehouse complexes - networks with calculation of costs for automatic fire extinguishing (AF), sprinkler and deluge systems;
- social infrastructure facilities - schools, hospitals, sports facilities, taking into account sanitary standards of water consumption;
- reconstruction and overhaul - relocation of worn-out water supply networks with hydraulic calculation of a new route.
Why do construction organizations choose AYU-Project to design external networks?
Developers and contractors trust us with the development of NEC projects, as we ensure technical accuracy and legal purity of documentation:
- Experience 8+ years. During this time, our engineers have implemented hundreds of projects for Russian Railways, Rosseti, NTEC and the country's largest developers.
- Guarantee of coordination with Vodokanal. We design routes strictly according to the technical conditions and regulations of operating organizations, which eliminates refusals to issue acceptance certificates.
- Optimization of laying methods. We analyze geology and development, offering trenchless methods (HDD, puncture) where it is cheaper and faster than open trench.
- Accurate hydraulic calculations. The use of specialized software (Zulu, WaterGEMS) guarantees stable pressure at any point in the network without unnecessary costs for pipe diameters.
- Free project protection during expert examination. Our specialists accompany the documentation at all stages of verification, promptly and free of charge eliminating any comments from experts.
What does hydraulic calculation of external water supply include?
Hydraulic calculation is a key engineering operation that determines pipe diameters, pressure losses in each section and the adequacy of pressure for each consumer. AYU-Project specialists perform calculations taking into account:
- estimated water consumption costs: average daily, maximum daily and maximum hourly - according to SP 31.13330.2021;
- pressure losses along the length of the pipeline and in local resistances (valves, fittings, water metering units);
- the required residual pressure at the hydraulically critical connection points;
- standard pressure at the insertion point according to the technical conditions of the water utility;
- calculating costs for external fire extinguishing in accordance with SP 8.13130.2020.
What pipes are used when designing external networks?
AYU-Project engineers select the pipeline material based on the pressure in the network, the aggressiveness of the soil and the requirements of the operating organization.
| Pipe type | Scope of application | Pressure | Benefits |
|---|---|---|---|
| PE 100 / PE 100 RC | Domestic and drinking water supply | up to 16 atm | Corrosion resistance, installation method HDD |
| Cast iron (VChShG) | Main water pipelines, high loads | up to 25 atm | High strength, durability (80+ years) |
| Steel (insulated) | Technological water pipelines, industrial enterprises | over 25 atm | Maximum mechanical strength |
| Fiberglass (GRP) | Aggressive environments, large diameters | up to 32 atm | Chemical resistance |
The choice of pipe type and pressure class is recorded in the explanatory note of the DD with justification for the technical and economic comparison of options.
Closed or open laying: how to choose a construction method?
The method of laying the water pipeline directly affects the cost of construction and timing, so the design decision is made taking into account the specific conditions of the route. AYU-Project offers optimal technology:
- open trench - the most common method if there is free space;
- horizontal directional drilling (HDD) - trenchless installation under roads and existing communications;
- punching (puncture) - for laying steel casings under roads with diameters up to 529 mm;
- microtunneling - for large diameters in cramped urban conditions.

Cost and timing of design development
The cost of developing design documentation and working documentation for external water supply networks is determined by the length of the route, the diameter of the pipelines, the installation method and the content of approvals. A project that requires state approval will require more time than documentation for a private facility.

How We Work
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, this is standard practice for projects with a tight schedule. AYU-Project begins development based on preliminary data: we trace the network, perform approximate hydraulic calculations, select pipe diameters and materials, and develop fundamental solutions. After receiving the technical specifications, we adjust the connection point, the network pressure and the composition of the components in accordance with the requirements of the water utility - as a rule, this takes no more than 3-5 working days. This approach allows us to reduce the total time from the start of design to the finished project by 2-4 weeks.
Technical conditions for connection to a centralized water supply system are issued only to the developer (technical client) as the legal owner of the land plot - the design organization does not have the right to receive them on its own behalf. However, AYU-Project prepares all the necessary documents for applying to the water utility, calculates estimated water consumption costs to justify the request and, if necessary, accompanies the client in the process of interaction with RSO. Once TUs are received, we analyze them for feasibility and, if necessary, initiate adjustments to the requirements before design begins.
Fire hydrants are an integral part of the external water supply network and are designed as part of a single section of NVK - no separate documents are required for them. Calculation of costs for external fire extinguishing, placement of hydrants along the route, checking pressure and flow at the connection points of fire equipment - all this is performed within the framework of one hydraulic calculation according to SP 8.13130.2020. A separate section or separate approval appears only in the case of designing automatic fire extinguishing installations (AUP) - this is already a related section of fire protection.
This is one of the most common problems on a construction site, especially in dense urban areas. In this case, the designer, as part of the designer’s supervision, records the deviation from the project, develops a change in the route and coordinates it with the water utility. If there is no designer's supervision, the builders either make a decision on their own (with the risk of violating standards), or construction stops until the situation is clarified. This is why AYU-Project recommends ordering designer’s supervision simultaneously with the project: prompt resolution of a conflict on site is many times cheaper than opening and redoing after filling the trench.
The boundary between external (OEC) and internal (IC) networks passes, as a rule, along the first shut-off device after entering the building or along the first inspection well on the territory of the facility. The water metering unit (cold water metering unit) is already located inside the building and is part of the VK section - internal water supply systems. In the NVC project, only the point of insertion into the city network, the diameter and the entry elevation are recorded. AYU-Project designs both sections, which ensures their complete coordination and eliminates discrepancies at the intersection of responsibility.
No. It is impossible to legitimize unauthorized construction of water supply networks within the normal procedure: the water utility will not connect the network without an approved project, Gosstroynadzor will not issue a certificate of hidden work on a pipeline that is filled up without inspection, and the commissioning of the facility will be blocked. In practice, such situations end either in a complete opening and rework, or in lengthy legal proceedings. The cost of design ordered before the start of construction is incomparably less than the cost of the consequences.
Yes, and this is one of the most time-consuming parts of the work that many clients miss when planning deadlines. Laying a pipeline through the land of third parties requires the registration of an easement or other right of way. The intersection of federal, regional or municipal roads must be approved by the relevant road authority - without this approval, the project will not pass expert review, and construction will be stopped. AYU-Project takes these limitations into account when routing even at the development stage: where possible, we offer trenchless methods (HDD, puncture), which simplify coordination with road services.
Technical specifications are only the right to start designing, but not permission to build. The technical specifications themselves do not replace design documentation: without a developed, agreed upon and expertly reviewed NVC project, the construction company will not receive a construction permit and will not be able to connect the facility to the centralized network. Vodokanal approves the design documentation, not the specifications. Often more than a year passes between the issuance of specifications and the completion of the project, and if during this time the technical specifications expire (the standard validity period is 2 years), they must be renewed. AYU-Project monitors the expiration dates of the terms of reference and initiates renewals if necessary.
